Bauhaus
pre-Nazi Germany Whimsical Metal Bookmark
This whimsical bookmark is “based
on the figure in Oskar Schlemmer’s triadic ballet, a production of the Bauhaus
stage in pre-Nazi Germany. Schlemmer believed that the teater and dance
should be executed with utter simplicity, “as though the world had only just
been created.” The “Triadisches Ballett” was so named because of the dancing in
threes, the three-sectional symphonic-architectonic structure of the whole, and
the unity of dance, costume, and music.
Color: Gold toned metal—I don’t know what type
of metal it is made of (see image).
Condition: I acquired
this a few years ago at the MIT
Museum. It is brand new, still shrink-wrapped in
original packaging.
